Home Chef campaign partnership with Gordon Ramsay
“Five Star Meals.”
A two-part campaign designed to bring restaurant-quality meals into the home kitchen.
I was commissioned to photograph the hero recipe imagery for Five Star Meals, a collaboration between Home Chef and Gordon Ramsay. The objective was to create imagery that reflected the elevated quality of Ramsay's culinary reputation while remaining approachable and attainable for the everyday home cook.
The Approach
Over two weeks in studio, my team created a comprehensive library of menu imagery focused on texture, ingredient visibility, and the feeling of a freshly plated meal. The visual direction needed to strike a careful balance: sophisticated enough to reflect a chef-driven experience, yet familiar enough to inspire confidence in Home Chef customers.
One of the primary challenges was translating restaurant-quality food into a visual language that felt achievable at home. Overly refined plating could create a sense of intimidation, while a more casual approach risked losing the premium positioning of the campaign.
Drawing from my hospitality background, I understand the distinction between food prepared for restaurant service and food prepared for photography. While Home Chef's culinary team arrives with extensively tested recipes and plating strategies, my role is to determine how lighting, composition, and styling can best showcase each dish and its ingredients.
During pre-production, I analyzed Home Chef's existing recipe categories; Express, Oven Ready, and Culinary, to ensure the Gordon Ramsay offerings felt cohesive within the broader brand while maintaining a distinct visual identity. This resulted in three unique yet connected visual approaches:
Express — Bright, energetic imagery with stronger directional light and crisp shadows, emphasizing speed and convenience.
Oven Ready — Warm wood tones and late-afternoon light inspired by the atmosphere of a modern pub, creating a sense of comfort and familiarity.
Culinary Collection — The most elevated of the three approaches, featuring refined styling, elegant compositions, and nuanced lighting that delivered subtle highlights while maintaining a rich, dinner-time mood.
The Result
The final image library delivered a premium visual experience that felt aspirational without sacrificing authenticity. The photography helped position Five Star Meals as a restaurant-inspired dining experience that could be recreated in any home kitchen.
In addition to the hero imagery, we captured clean plate and surface assets, providing the creative team with added flexibility for retouching, layout design, and future campaign extensions.
